Amputee hawker apologizes to Nigerians for lying, says her Grandmother tried to blackmail her

Published

Famous amputee hawker, Mary Daniel, has asked Nigerians for forgiveness after she lied that her father was dead.

Recall that when her story went viral, Mary had received N25 million donations from well-meaning people who were moved by the story that she lost her leg in an accident that claimed the life of all passengers, including her parents.

However, fresh reports claimed that her presence in Oshodi was staged, and alleged that there was no accident as she was amputated “from birth”

Mary has refuted allegations that her story was staged, stating that she had been hawking sachet water despite being an amputee because she does not know how to beg for alms but rather work to survive.

She said ;

“My father abandoned me since I was involved in this accident, there was no one to take care of me, nothing! That was why I said he’s dead. But my mother is truly dead. I had an accident truly; I was not amputated from birth.

“It was my grandmother that called me that she does not have anything, that if I have, I should send it. I said let me give her small money so she can use it to manage herself for now. I wanted to send N100, 000, I sent N200, 000 instead. She called me and asked why I sent her such a meagre amount, that, do I think she doesn’t know what’s going on, that how will people be contributing money for me and all I do is to send N200, 000.

“She said I’d rather send more money or she will expose me and I will go back to selling ‘pure’ (satchet) water. I was shocked and asked what sort of thing is this. She’s my maternal grandmother, she is really old.

“My aunties and uncles from my mother’s side are the ones pushing my grandmother into this and if she continues like this, later she will regret it. I have told her to calm down that I will take care of her but she refused. She is busy following her children around, making videos, that’s their business.

“Nigerians should forgive me. People that stay on the streets and in noisy places, they hardly have a settled mind and I said my father is late so Nigerians can help me. I made a big mistake; Nigerians should please forgive me.

“I want to open a supermarket in Lagos. I have always been a pure water hawker. Lagos is not the first place, I started from Onitsha, from there, I sold pure water in Asaba from there I came to Lagos. I don’t beg, even in my condition, I hawk that water so I can survive. That’s the business I have always been doing.

“I really appreciate the Lagos state government, Mr Idris, the hotel man that gave me accommodation, that celebrated my birthday. I also appreciate Princess Aderemi, for all the support and everyone that helped. I promise not to fail Nigerians.”

So, can we continue to keep him when the offence is subject to bail and when there is no court sitting? That is against his fundamental human rights and the police do not work on sentiments. Directives have been given out for his release on bail.” a senior officer of the Lagos State Police Command had stated.

The officer also stated that the CCTV footage, after being assessed, only showed the actor “touching the victim’s body but it never showed him having any sxual intercourse with the girl,” which he also confirmed and apologized for. “So, in law, it is a case of indecent assault and not sxual harassment, and it is open to bail.”

Nollywood Actor, Baba Ijesha’s Alleged Crime Is Bailable” – Lagos Commissioner For Police

Published

on

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu admitted that Baba Ijesha alleged offence was bailable since it’s not defilement but sexual assault..
The nollywood actor, Baba Ijesha has been in police custody after he was accused of defiling an under-aged girl.

Comedienne Princess came out to state that her foster child was the girl actor Baba Ijesha sexually assaulted.

Taking to Instagram, the entertainer revealed that after the crash of her marriage, some parents allowed their children, six in number, to come and live with her so she wouldn’t be lonely. She said while she was harbouring the six children, she was also rendering help to Baba Ijesha.

Princess alleged it was during one of his visits that he molested one of three girls living with her.

She said the defilement had an adverse effect on the child as she began to decline academically and otherwise.

The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while confirming that the actor was still in detention at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at Panti, Yaba, admitted that his alleged offence was a bailable offence since it’s not defilement but sexual assault.
Odumosu said his release can only happen based on legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He said the case file of the popular actor has already been sent to the office of the Attorney General of Lagos State and DPP for legal advice.

Odumosu further clarified that the police were investigating two different cases against the actor, adding that the case of the defilement came up as a result of the recent sexual assault allegation.

The police commissioner said:

“Baba Ijesha is still in our custody. The case is a bailable offence, but we will not consider him for bail.”

Noting that he personally interrogated all the parties involved in the case last Wednesday for three hours, he said he ascertained that it was a case of defilement which happened seven years ago and a recent case of sexual assault.

He lamented that the first offence of defilement, which happened seven years ago, was not reported to the police, rather, the second reported case was that of sexual assault.

According to Odumosu, “You don’t do trial on the pages of newspapers. There are two cases in Baba Ijesha’s case. One, he was alleged to have defiled a minor seven years ago. The girl is now 14 years old.

“As at that time, no complaint or report was made. Last week, a video went viral where he was arrested for alleged sexual assault. What is meant by indecent assault is when a man touches a woman, where he is not supposed to without her consent.”

He also noted that Baba Ijesha has admitted that he sexually assaulted the girl, adding that “the case of defilement is still under thorough investigation, and we need some scientific work to do.”
Odumosu added that: “Sexual assault is a bailable offence. It is not like rape case. No allegation of rape was made against him.”
